Each dish has been selected to convey its own symbolic meaning, as the lucky food is served during the celebrating period to bring good luck for the coming year. We've decoded a few dishes for you. Our dine-in, pick-up, and home delivery service for the Lunar New Year feast will be available from the 5th to 25th of February.
🦞 Prosperity Lobster Yee Sang
Our Ipoh Hawker Lobster Yee Sang is renowned as the “Prosperity Toss” or “Lo Hei”. This dish represents a good beginning to a brand-new year. It is traditionally served with salmon however, at Ipoh Hawker we wanted to give 2024's prosperity an extra boost with an entire Australian lobster which symbolise as the Dragon of the Sea. Everyone at the table is encouraged to join in and toss the ingredients while saying “auspicious wishes”.
🐟 Steam whole Fish
The word "fish" is pronounced "yu," which is phonetically similar to the Chinese word "surplus." Our team enjoyed eating this dish growing up with our families, especially during Lunar New Year, as it symbolized us wishing our loved ones good fortune, wealth, and prosperity for the new year.
🧧 Sea Braised Sea Cucumber with Mushroom, Fish Maw & Fat Choy
We've more fortune by adding “Fat choy” which sounds similar to a phrase meaning “be prosperous”. The traditional greeting for Happy New Year in Cantonese is “Gong hei fat choy”, which means “Congratulations and be prosperous.”
